My doctor says I have IBS, I’ve thought I’ve had it for the last few years, but I’m trying to control it by not eating a lot of greasy or fatty foods. My doc have me previcide I think…I’m not quite sure though. How does a person develope IBS? It’s kind of embarassing, especially when I’m public & have to go home ’cause I have to go to the bathroom.
Chosen Answer:
I’ve had IBS for a long time now. I was diagnosed with it about 15 years ago. From my experience, a person has always had it but ignores the symptoms until they become bad enough or often enough that they see a dr, then it gets diagnosed. i think they go through adolescence thinking that it’s normal. Symptoms include living in a constant cycle of constipation/diarreah. There’s usually a lot of cramping and discomfort, and when you finally have to go to the bathroom, you have to go RIGHT NOW. I have taken medication for it twice, but the side effects were worse than the IBS so I stopped. I don’t take anything for it now…I rely on either working my schedule around it, or using the hypnosis. The diet changes helped, but with the hypnosis, diet didn’t make a difference – I could eat whatever I wanted without any episodes.
It’s often linked with anxiety and come hand in hand. I think that it’s just a condition that some people’s intestines are more sensitive than others.
For diet suggestions, I found this site/info helps…

She has a cheat sheet of what you can eat and what to avoid for most people…

I’ve also had very good luck with self hypnosis for this particular condition…I was able to for a full 3 months without any episodes at all. I suggest listening to the cd every 2-3 months to keep it working…if you can’t get to it from the link below, go to ebay and search for “IBS HYPNOSIS” and Woodland_Hypnosis’s product should come up. I highly recommend it as it worked miracles for me (I had to listen to it two days in a row for it to first start working).

I’m not sure if you experience anxiety or not (I do), but most times anxiety and IBS come together as a package deal. If so, I’ve used The Linden Method for anxiety and have found it very helpful also. It hasn’t gotten rid of all of the anxiety (yet), but I no longer get full blown panic attacks.
I am not affiliated in any way with any of the websites that I have listed here, I’m only stating what has worked for me.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck, and hope that those products help…they definitely did for me.
